Yamamoto Paper is a Japanese paper-related company founded in 1972, originally operating as a paper wholesaler. Since 2005, the company has utilized its knowledge of paper and processing techniques to plan, develop, and manufacture original paper products. The company is characterized by its focus on the properties of paper and writing feel in product development.

This writing pad is part of Yamamoto Paper’s series and uses “Tomoe River S” paper produced by Sanzen Paper. Tomoe River paper is known for being thin and lightweight, yet resistant to ink bleeding and show-through.

These qualities are achieved by applying an extremely thin and uniform sizing layer. Among the different thicknesses of Tomoe River paper, the 52gsm version is ultra-thin, allowing for a large number of pages without adding bulk. Its smooth texture provides a delightful writing experience, suitable for fountain pens and various other writing instruments.

“Tomoe River S” continues the legacy of Tomoe River paper originally developed by Tomoe River Paper (Tomoegawa Co., Ltd.) and is now produced by Sanzen Paper in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. The paper is made from a blend of hardwood (eucalyptus) and softwood (pine and others), offering a smooth surface, minimal bleeding, and uniform firmness. The slightly increased thickness ensures the paper resists wrinkling even when used with erasable pens such as Frixion.

Yamamoto Paper conducts rigorous testing with fountain pens and other writing tools to ensure the paper resists bleed-through even with layered writing.
